Sponsor a Horse

Equestrians and animal lovers of all ages intrinsically understand the remarkable ways in which horses enrich our lives. When you sponsor a horse at Green Chimneys, you will support the care of our equines and sustain the vitality of animal-assisted services for children with special needs.

Sponsor a Mini Horse

100

Say hello to Cricket! Born May 15, 2019 right here at Green Chimneys, this mini horse was the apple of our eye before she even arrived. For students who may struggle with human relationships, communicating or regulating emotions, helping mama Maya prepare for Cricket’s birth provided learning opportunities and life lessons. “Watching a new life begin and seeing the foal’s connection to its mother – these experiences are not only priceless, but they can also be therapeutic”, says Michael Kaufmann, VP of Green Chimneys Farm & Wildlife Center and Head of The Sam and Myra Ross Institute. Being doted on by students and staff from the start, Cricket is nonplussed by the hustle and bustle of life on the Brewster campus- in fact, she thrives on it!

This majestic Percheron-Paint Cross has been part of the Green Chimneys equine program since 2017. Formerly trained in dressage, Chief has great poise and an attentiveness that teaches students about the importance of maintaining calm, confident energy. His size can be intimidating for new students but his peaceful presence invites them closer, engaging their curiosity. Chief’s patient and gentle nature makes him a perfect partner for students who are nervous but want to work with a larger horse.

Sponsor the Clydesdale Pasture

2500

The largest horses in our herd, Clydesdale geldings Danny and Tex, hail from a family in New Hampshire that decided to share them with Green Chimneys to help the students learn about working with draft horses. The team arrived trained for riding and pulling a wagon in tandem; wagon rides provide a unique experience and fun way for students to connect with horses. These horses are part of Green Chimneys’ equine program that includes therapeutic horsemanship, groundwork and work-based learning.

Sponsor a horse for yourself or give a gift sponsorship to horse lover in your life!

Looking for a meaningful gift? Sponsoring a horse makes a great birthday gift, graduation present, or end of school year thank you.

By sponsoring a horse at Green Chimneys, you are sustaining the quality care provided to all of our equines. Each horse sponsorship is valid for one year. Based on your chosen horse, sponsorship comes with a photo card and a short bio. During the online ordering process, choose whether to have the card mailed to you directly or sent to your gift recipient.

A sponsorship card is held with a photo of Percheron-Paint draft horse named Chief galloping in his pasture next to a white spotted horse. The card rests on a white envelope with green animal silhouettes. Beyond the card is a sunny pasture with trees and fences in the distance and two horses grazing.

Equines of all sizes are making a difference in the lives of children with special needs.

For over 75 years, equine education has been a part of Green Chimneys School. Through animal-assisted activities and equine-assisted therapy, children with special needs are discovering new talents, establishing beautiful connections, and building confidence. From miniature horses to a Shetland pony and a pair of minature donkeys to draft horses, students are benefiting from equine connections, helping with grooming and groundwork, and developing essential skills alongside friendships.

Green Chimneys has chosen to affiliate with the Professional Association of Therapeutic Riding International (PATH Intl.) for many years to attain Premier Accredited Center status and to have our instructors certified in equine-assisted services. And most recently, Green Chimneys has been designated a mentor by the EQUUS Foundation.

An African American teenage girl with braided hair with a few blue braise smiles widely as she places a hand on the shoulder of a large Clydesdale draft horse.
